Ion-Exchange Resin for Water Softners

Standard Water Softners meant to remove hardness caused by Calcium and Magnesium use ion-exchange resin that swaps hardness ions for sodium ions. The resin is periodically flushed and then recharged using a salt brine.

These systems need little maintenance to function properly, but to avoid salty tasting water proper guidelines should be followed when installing and recharging the system.
